Synopsis

After a chance meeting with the wayfaring wizard Madoc convinces him he has magical potential, twelve-year-old squire Randal leaves behind his training for knighthood and travels to the Schola Sorceriae, a school of wizardry in the city of Tarnsberg.

Randal starts out an inept, uncertain student among more naturally gifted classmates, but gradually finds his footing and grows into his own abilities under Madoc's guidance. As he settles into life at the school, he uncovers that one of its own Master Wizards is turning to dark magic in a bid to seize control of the institution — pulling Randal into a conflict far beyond his training.

The first book in the Circle of Magic series, School of Wizardry pairs a classic hero's-journey structure with a lighter, accessible tone suited to younger readers, emphasizing persistence and growth over natural talent.
