Let’s start with the good. I liked that we got to explore a new city with its own customs and a different landscape, and I appreciated that the structure of this book was a bit different from the previous ones. It helped set it apart from the rest of the series.
Unfortunately, a lot of things ruined my experience and made it a negative one. The biggest issue? The MMC. No matter how much the author tries to justify Verakko’s actions <spoiler>(that Lily wouldn’t understand, that his culture was different, that he wasn’t sure if she was his mate)</spoiler>, for me, they are unforgivable. <spoiler>He lied about being engaged to someone else and took away her choice about which city to go to, knowing that the one he chose would force her into marriage with a stranger, whether she wanted it or not.</spoiler> There is no man more manipulative and selfish than him.
I also feel like the main plot of the series didn’t develop as much as in the other books.
I’m trying to push through the rest of the series because, for some reason, I really want to read Ruling Sikthand, but I’m seriously questioning whether it would be better to just skip the others.
