Synopsis

رقعة الشطرنج (The Chessboard) is a historical adventure set amid the rivalries of the medieval Islamic world, as the Ayyubid and Mamluk dynasties struggle for supremacy. Part of Sami Mokaddem's Arabic historical series for younger readers, the novel dramatises real dynastic conflict through the metaphor of a great game of strategy — a story of intrigue, ambition, and shifting loyalties told at an accessible, propulsive pace.
