Synopsis

William Least Heat-Moon, known for his explorations of American back roads, embarks on his most ambitious journey yet: a singular voyage across American waters from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Aboard his small boat, Nikawa, he navigates rivers, lakes, and canals, confronting massive floods, dangerous weather, and personal doubts. Along the way, he encounters generous strangers, witnesses unchanged landscapes, and reflects on the lively past and the growing efforts to protect the nation's lands and waters.
