Voyage to Tomorrow (رحلة إلى الغد) is a play by the pioneering Egyptian dramatist Tawfiq al-Hakim, one of the founders of modern Arabic theatre. Blending science fiction with philosophical parable, it follows two condemned men who, instead of being executed, are offered the chance to volunteer for a dangerous experimental space voyage.
They survive and return — but centuries have passed on Earth, and they wake into a strange, transformed future society that forces them, and the reader, to confront questions about time, human nature, freedom, and what it means to belong to one's own age. Their disorientation becomes a lens through which al-Hakim examines the promises and anxieties of progress.
Characteristically intellectual and idea-driven, al-Hakim's play uses a speculative premise to stage a meditation on civilization and the human condition, extending the "theatre of the mind" for which he became famous.
