Ugh!!!!! This book was a conundrum for me.
My third Kate Stewart book and I very much enjoyed the first two. This one, I really enjoyed the story, but there were also things that drove me nuts.
First the good. I loved Easton and Natalie’s relationship, Kate Stewart does relationships and relationship conflict SO WELL. Were either of them perfect? No. Did stuff they did drive me crazy, yes. But I loved reading about their conflict and what they went through.
Now the bad. The reasoning for Natalie finding Easton is weak. SUPER weak. And she wrote SO MUCH about WHY Natalie did it that it seemed like Kate Stewart herself needed to be convinced that this plot point made sense. Does it ruin the story? No.
I also wasn’t a fan of the length. Too much back and forth. 3 or 4 things of the same type occur when probably 2 would suffice. So much unnecessary internal monologue.
As a music person married to a non-music person the idea that music would suddenly do for Natalie what it does for Easton after years of her not giving a crap…far fetched.
But in the end, I had a hard time pulling away from the book and just wanted to know what happened next. And I love what Kate does with the music. So 3.5 is probably a more accurate rating, but I rounded up because I can already tell Easton and Natalie will live rent free in my mind for awhile.
