Another trip of adventure with Penny in this whimsical DallerGut Dream Department Store and its dream selling world. Loved how the worldbuilding was more expansive this time and apart the heartwarming tales of the customers that visited the store, it also delved much deeper into the dream industry and how the dream production works. From a visit to the Civil Complaints Centre to a heartfelt journey of one’s hope, healing and self-discovery; too cozy on the backdrop (despite the summer heat), bit sentimental and still loving how those dreams brought me into one’s emotional lifestory, of fears and regrets as well that glimpses of closure and comfort.
More depth on the characterization esp for DallerGut and few of Penny’s colleagues at the store; loved the interactions of Penny and Motail and that backstory about Speedo with one of the lucid dreamer customer. The dynamics were enchanting with more narratives revolved around the dreammakers in between Penny’s stress episodes of dealing with the store’s regular customer cases. Personally loved chapters of Maxim and Nicholas with the red ice-cream truck selling snowflake and the crafty fortune cookies that would make you go reflect on your guilt as well the tale of customer 792 who was on the verge of losing his sight.
Nothing too heavy on the execution overall, still a light slice-of-life fantasy to me and truly favoured its simple gentle prose and the mystery behind the DallerGut store. The stories resonated emotionally at a point, offering that gaze of motivation and life lessons making me go thinking about my own dreams as well. Too cute at the end with that epilogue of Maxim and Penny, wish could read more of them soon; perhaps book 3 later(?) **anticipating
