Synopsis
Walter Benjamin (1892-1940) was a significant figure in German literature and philosophy, though an outsider in his lifetime. This biography explores his fascinating and tragic life, detailing his struggles as an essayist and literary critic in Weimar Germany and Parisian exile amidst the rise of Nazism. It illuminates how Benjamin's groundbreaking insights into modernity continue to influence thought, and how his friend Theodor W. Adorno ensured his complex body of work was eventually published.
