Synopsis

Bill Browder went to post-Soviet Russia as an ambitious young financier and built Hermitage Capital into one of the country's largest foreign investment funds, making a fortune in the chaotic aftermath of the Soviet collapse. When he began exposing the corruption of the oligarchs and officials looting the companies he invested in, he was branded a threat to national security and expelled from the country.

What followed turned a financial memoir into a life-or-death crusade. After a $230 million tax fraud was committed in Hermitage's name by corrupt officials, Browder's lawyer Sergei Magnitsky uncovered and testified to the scheme — and was arrested, held, and beaten to death in a Moscow prison. Browder recounts his transformation from hedge-fund manager into a full-time human-rights campaigner, culminating in his fight to pass the Magnitsky Act.

Told with the pace of a thriller, Red Notice is a gripping true story of high finance, state corruption, murder, and one man's refusal to let his lawyer's death go unanswered.
