Red Clocks
In a near-future America, the Personhood Amendment has outlawed abortion and in vitro fertilization, while the Every Child Needs Two Parents Act threatens to dismantle non-traditional families. The story follows four women—a teacher, a biographer, a wife, and a teenager—as they navigate a society that has stripped them of their bodily autonomy. Their lives intersect in a quiet, coastal Oregon town, revealing the personal costs of a political landscape that seeks to control their futures.
As of my last update, there is no film or television adaptation of Leni Zumas's Red Clocks.
Red Clocks is a standalone novel and does not require reading any other books to understand its story.
Leni Zumas drew inspiration from historical witch trials and contemporary political discussions around reproductive rights to create the speculative near-future world of Red Clocks.
