Gripped by severe depression and anxiety, he stood on a cliff's edge and could see no way to keep living. Reasons to Stay Alive is his honest, moving account of that crisis and the long, non-linear climb out of it — how he survived, how he slowly learned to live again, and what helped along the way.

Moving between his younger self in the depths of illness and his present self looking back, Haig writes plainly about what depression and panic actually feel like from the inside, the clumsiness and stigma that surround mental illness, and the small, ordinary things — love, books, walking, time — that gradually became lifelines. He is careful never to promise easy answers, but insistent on one point: that even the oldest cliché is true, and there is light at the end of the tunnel.

A number-one bestseller that has resonated with millions of readers, Haig's memoir is a warm, clear-eyed companion for anyone living with depression or anxiety, or trying to understand a loved one who is.",2015,"en","https://api.seekquel.app/storage/covers/works/01/01kjsvdx6pcwhqgngcwzb1zse8.jpg","https://api.seekquel.app/storage/covers/works-3d/01/01kjsvdx6pcwhqgngcwzb1zse8.png?v=6ec7d02d18","L9KMRZ%L5xx]-hs*R;f7Aye:$uoc","3.00",1,272,309,0,"pending",true,false,[18,18,18,18,18,15,18,18,18,18],[24
"01kjqtygnxx0defvm5knq5pt23","matt-haig-kb3p","Matt Haig","author","Matt Haig is the author of the bestselling novel *The Midnight Library*. Then her own long-term relationship collapses without warning, and she finds herself doing something she has spent her career recommending to others: sitting on the other side of the room, in a state of crisis, seeing a therapist of her own.

The book braids Gottlieb's sessions with her wry, unsparing therapist, Wendell, together with the stories of four of her own patients. There is John, an abrasive Hollywood producer convinced everyone around him is an idiot; Julie, a young newlywed forced to reckon with a devastating diagnosis; Rita, approaching seventy and haunted by regret; and Charlotte, a twenty-something caught in self-defeating patterns. As their lives unfold, the line between healer and patient blurs, and Gottlieb turns the same searching attention on herself.

Funny, humane, and quietly profound, Maybe You Should Talk to Someone is a memoir about the strange intimacy of therapy and a wide-ranging meditation on change, mortality, and meaning. It demystifies what actually happens in the consulting room and makes a persuasive case that self-examination, however uncomfortable, is where real change begins.","https://api.seekquel.app/storage/covers/editions/01/01krc3nnsqrv5190t1stsry2g8.jpg","LfKLO2nOGdxtLNX8r:jI6UX9ngae",2019,"5.00",432,[181
"01kjqv65jvxypftfvtt0mt15j6","lori-gottlieb-rhlz","Lori Gottlieb",[186,187,188,189,190,194,195,196,197
59,"Contemporary Literature","contemporary-literature
[
[201,161,202],"funny","heartwarming",[
"01kjq83x73n068xsj6zafqe2rg","im-glad-my-mom-died-jwo4","I'm Glad My Mom Died","Jennette McCurdy was six years old when her mother enrolled her in acting, chasing the Hollywood dream she wanted for herself. Sixteen years after promising to keep in touch, Albom—now a driven, workaholic sports journalist—reconnects with Morrie, who is in the final months of his life after a diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

What begins as a single visit becomes a standing appointment: every Tuesday, Albom flies across the country to sit with his dying mentor for one last course, this one on the meaning of life. Over fourteen Tuesdays, Morrie shares hard-won wisdom on the subjects that matter most—love, work, family, aging, forgiveness, regret, and how to make peace with death—while his body steadily fails him.

Published in 1997, Tuesdays with Morrie is a slim, deeply personal memoir that became one of the best-selling books of its kind. Manson's argument is simple but bracing: caring about everything leaves you exhausted and anxious, so the real skill is choosing the few things that genuinely deserve your attention and letting the rest go.

Drawing on Stoic ideas, blunt personal anecdotes, and the occasional pointed profanity, Manson makes the case that struggle is unavoidable and even necessary — that a good life comes not from escaping problems but from picking better problems to have. He examines how values shape our sense of success, why entitlement and the pursuit of constant happiness backfire, and how accepting responsibility (even for things that aren't our fault) restores a sense of control.

Irreverent, funny, and deliberately unglamorous, the book reframes self-improvement around honesty, limitation, and the acceptance of death rather than affirmations and hustle. The same way money multiplies through compounding, the effects of good and bad habits multiply as we repeat them. On any given day a single choice barely registers, but stretched across months and years those choices decide who we become. Atomic Habits is James Clear's practical framework for making small changes that add up to remarkable results.

Clear argues that we do not rise to the level of our goals; we fall to the level of our systems. Rather than relying on motivation or willpower, he shows how to design an environment and a set of routines that make good behavior easier and bad behavior harder. His model, the Four Laws of Behavior Change—make it obvious, make it attractive, make it easy, and make it satisfying—gives readers concrete levers for building habits that stick and breaking the ones that hold them back.

Drawing on research in psychology and neuroscience alongside stories from business, sport, and everyday life, the book focuses less on outcomes and more on identity: becoming the kind of person who does the things you want to do. Drawing on more than three decades of work with combat veterans, abused children, and survivors of assault and disaster, Dr. Bessel van der Kolk shows how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers' capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control and trust.

Blending clinical case studies with cutting-edge neuroscience, van der Kolk explains why traumatized people are haunted by intolerable sensations and emotions long after the danger has passed, and why talk therapy alone is often not enough. He then explores a range of treatments — from EMDR and neurofeedback to yoga, theatre, and mindfulness — that can help the brain to "rewire" itself and reactivate the innate capacity for healing.

The Body Keeps the Score is a landmark work on the science of trauma and recovery, arguing with clarity and compassion that by understanding how trauma lives in the body, we can find genuine paths back to wholeness.","https://api.seekquel.app/storage/covers/editions/01/01ksys4jkraynr2ae4fwwtazjk.jpg","L4BOa#tn0btn5AflxVae04jE-1WB",2014,520,[861
"01kjq6w9cgyssmewfh75ws11tt","bessel-van-der-kolk-k4kz","Bessel van der Kolk",[866,867,868,872,873,874,875,879
71,"Science & Nature","science-nature
92,"Science","science
[
[363,161,158],[
"01kjq70c5ztc3zwvw81p7mg1rs","the-48-laws-of-power-wyyt","The 48 Laws of Power","The 48 Laws of Power lays out its argument in 48 self-contained chapters, each built around a single principle — "never outshine the master," "conceal your intentions," "crush your enemy totally" — and supported by historical vignettes drawn from centuries of courts, wars, and negotiations.

Robert Greene's approach is descriptive rather than prescriptive in tone: he presents power as a game with its own rules, regardless of whether the reader approves of them, and draws his case studies from figures as varied as European monarchs, con artists, and 20th-century political operators.

The book has found a lasting audience well outside its original history-and-strategy niche, cited frequently in business and self-help circles, and remains one of Greene's most widely read works — read either as a practical playbook or as a study of how power has historically been won and lost.","https://api.seekquel.app/storage/covers/editions/01/01kjq70c765bxgfymvpvdhf0z3.jpg","LlG|%So2|DsTjZfQjujta{fQa}fQ",312,[893
"01kjq70c65zy7x55gfz4ytra8q","robert-greene-jy3r","Robert Greene",[898,899,900,901,902,903,904,905,906
[
[363,228],[
"01krwh9h8p5n2g0zfnbvzzn044","happy-lies-zc4v","Happy Lies","Explore the complex relationship between truth and well-being in this insightful psychology book. I must say, I quickly went through this one.
Matt is very articulate. The writing is very raw and real. Plus, the writing style is very accessible (far from all the medical terminology and psycho babble that go over most people's heads). I loved the short paragraphs that made te book a real page turner.
At times, it even gets under your skin and make you actually LIVE depression.

I must say though: I am a very biased reader, and the topic is very much dear to my heart. In fact, I was actually scared of being triggered as I read Haig's account of his journey. Fortunately, besides a few tears I unwillingly shed here and there, I safely got to shore.
Now, on another note: even though I kept nodding in approval across the book, the latter did fail to actually dig as deep as I wanted it to.
My point is that, Reasons to Stay Alive is an excellent thought provoker/ conversation starter, whose sole purpose is to generate talk about mental health. It doesn't go much beyond that and I got less out of than I had hoped.
Don't get me wrong, each experience is valid and worth sharing. The author did it brilliantly with an unwavering honesty. The book is nevertheless more suitable for those who are starting to dabble in the issue.
In my personal opinion, someone who isn't living IT would benefit way more than someone with depression or anxiety disorder.

That being said, this book is a must read to all of the cynics out there. To all the care givers to someone with a mental disorder. To all the curious souls seeking understanding. To all those who think being depressed is being a bit sad. To all those who think anxiety is in one's head. To all those who tell sufferers to suck it up and be "happy". To all those who think depression is but dark days and sobbing messes.. To all the Humans.","none","rv-01ks60zkkxcrk0f5wpwaq79eta",[],"2026-05-21T19:42:44.000000Z
"01kkc8g6zgqzzxhf3a0nxqpvm7","review-of-reasons-to-stay-alive-by-myriam-akrout","Review of "Reasons To Stay Alive" by myriam_akrout
7,"Myriam Akrout","myriam_akrout","https://api.seekquel.app/storage/avatars/7.webp?v=1778226190",618,600,"I wish I could give this book as a gift to people around me who still can't get the hang of how depression works. As someone with bipolar disorder I found a lot of things I related to. At least when it comes to half of my mental illness. The book is so easy to read, no complicated medical terms, it's not a cold book full of scientific facts, instead the facts are scattered inside a heartwarming story. A brilliant book that was tainted for me because of the last optimistic part and since I'm in a dark phase and have a high aversion for hope, it felt like it was oppressing me to be optimistic. But in happier days this would have been perfect.","rv-01kkc8g6zgqzzxhf3a0nxqpvm7",[],"2026-03-10T16:15:24.000000Z"]
