Synopsis

On Hobbs Land, human settlers discovered the nearly extinct Owlbrit species, learning fragments of their language and religion before their demise. The settlers maintained the last Owlbrit temple and its strange statue-God, and when this deity mysteriously disintegrated, they began preparing a replacement. Maire Manone arrived on Hobbs Land to escape the strict patriarchal religion of Voorstod, but her past catches up to her when men from her homeland come to retrieve her. They soon discover that Hobbs Land's unique God has its own plans.
