Ten years ago every superhero and supervillain on Earth disappeared in one final battle, and nobody has explained it since. As the anniversary of Mystery Day comes round, thirteen-year-olds Danny and Colin start developing powers of their own, work out that their parents were part of the missing generation, and are promptly kidnapped by a man building a machine to strip powers away.
