Synopsis

In 1856 Kansas, a young slave named Henry is mistaken for a girl and rescued by abolitionist John Brown. Henry, nicknamed 'Onion,' joins Brown's ragtag army of freedom fighters, witnessing the brutal realities of the abolitionist movement. This unlikely friendship and journey force Onion to confront his identity and the harsh landscape of a nation on the brink of war.
