Read this one after the first book. This is a prequel to it, but it can really be read as a standalone, as all the practices of the Order are explained once again. I liked the idea of going back to see Carr and Rebecca after the small remark that was done in Pretty Vicious, and they both feel fairly distinct to Laurel and Carrson, Becky especially.
Their love story feels more ruthless and daring, with both of them crossing boundaries each way. It was fun to try to match the image that was on this book to the one of the same characters decades later, even if they were fully formed only by the epilogue. I have my theories regarding the ending, and I really want to see if it gets paid off in book 2, Pretty Savage.
