Synopsis

Predator's Gold is the second installment of Philip Reeve's Mortal Engines Quartet, a young-adult science fiction series set in a distant future where mobile cities prowl a ruined Earth, consuming smaller towns to survive. Following the events of Mortal Engines, aviators Tom Natsworthy and Hester Shaw find themselves stranded on the ice and taken aboard the dwindling traction city of Anchorage.

As Anchorage attempts a dangerous crossing toward the dead continent of America, the pair are caught among pursuing predator cities, secretive strangers, and betrayals that test their bond. Reeve builds the world with vivid invention and a willingness to let his characters face real cost.

The novel suits readers who enjoy imaginative post-catastrophe settings and propulsive adventure with emotional stakes. It is the middle of a four-book arc and is best read after the opening volume.
