Synopsis

This volume pauses Jesse Custer's cross-country hunt for a God who abandoned Heaven to look backward: how Jesse and Tulip first fell for each other, and how she became as lethal with a gun as he is with the Word of Genesis fused into his voice. Once reunited, Jesse turns his attention to Cassidy, the hard-drinking Irish vampire who betrayed Tulip during the period everyone believed Jesse was dead.

Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon keep the series' mix of ultra-violence, dark comedy, and genuine tenderness between its central trio intact, deepening Jesse and Tulip's relationship even as the Cassidy betrayal poisons it.
