Stephen King : This is the scariest book I've ever written. When I was done with it, I stashed it away in a drawer, shuddering at the conclusions I have drawn.
Me, after reading 55 chapters of exposition & build-up without any actual scary moment :
THIS WAS GARBAGE!!
What even was this?
Oh, you don't understand. King explored grief and how it takes you to dark places.
What is grief?
And hate to break it to ya chief but this wasn't it.
Steins Gate dealt with grief. Now that does what King was trying to do but infinitely better. A cheery guy hopping timelines after timelines, f•••••• up the future just to save his best friend. And every time he makes the jump, you see something dying in him to the point he can feel his mind breaking.
Stephen, on the other hand, apart from his infuriating habit of undercutting the tension with a sexual innuendo, took way too long to get to the point. Like over 500 pages long.
And padding. Bro, there is just so much unnecessary padding!
Line : He was hungry and was going to order pizza for dinner.
King in Pet Sematary :
He was famished, hungry beyond belief. It perturbed him how bottomless the pit in his stomach felt in that moment. The last time he felt so hollow was when he was 8 and had spent the whole day playing baseball out in the field with his friends. George, a chubby kid from the neighborhood whom nobody was really fond of, mainly because of how obnoxious his parents came off during every monthly residents meeting, had brought a new bat that day and was refusing to share, acting like a total prick. But in those days, it was customary to show off any new item you came in possession of. Even today, although he never condoned George of taking his bat off with him the moment an argument erupted between him and Max over something he could not recall at this moment, he still believed there was nothing wrong in flaunting what you've got.
He turned on the TV and was taken aback by the commercial of the new departmental store that they had opened around the corner.
There used to be a pet store there and the owner was a nice old lady who died of a heart attack in 1965. But then some big corporation bought it after bribing the officials because why not?!
The ad showcased fresh vegetables which none of the kids really liked, prime cuts of poultry, where the focus was primarily on the juicy & tender breasts of chicken. So supple and scrumptious that it reminded him of his girlfriend and how sharp her nipples had felt that night when she had called him over to her house. Her parents had some urgent business they needed to attend to and were out of town for the weekend. His mind replayed that night unabashedly which gave him an erection and rendered his body hot, almost putting him into a scandalous reverie. His thoughts collided with each other and eventually coalesced into an insatiable desire to have a pizza instead of sitting on his couch, which had started reflecting the years it had endured tolerating all kinds of asses, and having the memories of that moonlight tryst torture him any further.
Beyond disappointed!
