Synopsis

Penelope, a charming country miss, captures the attention of the wealthy and handsome Earl of Hestleton. He initially intends to toy with her affections, but soon finds himself falling in love. Their romance is jeopardized when the Earl discovers Penelope's Aunt Augusta is using their relationship for social gain, leading him to question Penelope's true feelings. Penelope must fight to prove her love and secure her future, or risk disgrace.

Marion Chesney was born in 1936 in Glasgow, Scotland. Her first job was a bookseller in charge of the fiction department in John Smith & Sons Ltd. While working there, the Scottish Daily Mail hired her to review variety shows; she quickly rose to be their theatre critic.
