Synopsis

Paradise-1 was to be Earth's first deep space colony — for thousands of people, an opportunity for a new life. Then it went dark. No communication has been received from the colony for months, and nobody knows why.

Firewatch inspector Alexandra Petrova is sent to find out. She and Dr. Lei Zhang are dragged out of cryogenic sleep with the alarms of the starship Artemis blaring around them, warned by the captain that the ship is under attack. The vessel that met them has come from Paradise-1 itself, and it is completely empty. With pilot Sam Parker and the ship's robot, Rapscallion, Petrova has no choice but to board it and push further out toward the silent colony. The further they go, the more the dangers close in.

Paradise-1 opens David Wellington's Red Space trilogy, a blend of science fiction and survival horror that runs to nearly 700 pages. Orbit published it in April 2023; it is followed by Revenant-X and Erebus-13.
