Synopsis

When a mysterious hemorrhagic fever begins killing patients in Los Angeles hospitals, the Centers for Disease Control sends young epidemiologist Marissa Blumenthal to trace its source. What looks like a natural outbreak of an Ebola-like virus soon reveals a far more disturbing pattern: the disease keeps appearing in different cities, always tied to for-profit medical clinics.

Robin Cook's breakout medical thriller follows Marissa as she pushes past official resistance and corporate stonewalling to expose a conspiracy that turns a virus into a weapon of corporate greed — putting her own life on the line in the process.
