"Secrets are parasites that devour the best of you. The only way to survive is to pretend they don't exist. A bit like ghosts and demons."
As a teenager in the late 70s, Elizabeth was far from picture perfect. Her family is falling apart, she's being bullied at school because of her weight and she's become obsessed with new girl Rachel. Rachel was beautiful, Elizabeth was drawn to her straight away. Rachel had her own secrets, and she had her own reasons for befriending Elizabeth.
That was the year the first body was found. It was shocking then because it was such a safe and quiet town. 20 years later, another body has been found in the same place and Elizabeth is worried. Can she keep outrunning her past to protect her future?
This one felt like a slow burn at first, but I was committed to finding out the truth. The story seems to be going no where for a while and then BAM, it all comes together. The ending of this book was really amazing. I loved finding out what happened then and now and it actually was quite sad!
If you're into mystery, easy slow-paced thrillers, then this one is for you!
