One Thousand White Women begins with May Dodd’s journey into an unknown world. Having been committed to an insane asylum by her blue-blood family for the crime of loving a man beneath her station, May finds that her only hope for freedom and redemption is to participate in a secret government program whereby women from “civilized” society become the brides of Cheyenne warriors. What follows is a series of breathtaking adventures—May’s brief, passionate romance with the gallant young army captain John Bourke; her marriage to the great chief Little Wolf; and her conflict of being caught between loving two men and living two completely different lives. “Fergus portrays the perceptions and emotions of women…with tremendous insight and sensitivity.”—Booklist “A superb tale of sorrow, suspense, exultation, and triumph.” —Winston Groom, author of Forrest Gump",1999,"en","https://api.seekquel.app/storage/covers/editions/01/01kx26anazntqcyb1pc9bx6mr3.jpg?v=4c409fbd63","https://api.seekquel.app/storage/covers/works-3d/01/01kx26agn04rc6d2vgsnmvt279.png?v=5be9deb7b4","LbKUJ.9bEMobYRxWjYWC0Nt6xZof","4.00",1,400,455,0,"complete",false,true,[18,18,18,18,18,18,18,15,18,18],[24
"01krczf3zpxqjsthc9wppvjxqr","jim-fergus-bype","Jim Fergus","author",[30
8,"Historical Fiction","historical-fiction",[],[],[37,41,44
"01kjq6yq7bb20z9mdwg86230sa","Historical","subject
"01kk1yh5fzqxwycq5eamg32jz6","Westerns
"01kjq6wyetsw6tpbsv85znafm0","Literary",[],[49,59,71,78
"isbn_13":55
"01kx26anazntqcyb1pc9bx6mr3","paperback","Paperback",528,"2018-07-31","9781250183040","St. Martin's Publishing Group",10,"approved
"isbn_13":68
"01kx26agnmzxrvfdtcet1309t6","One Thousand White Women","3","kindle","Kindle",304,"2010-04-01","https://images.isbndb.com/covers/2812833482697.jpg","9781429938846","Macmillan Trade",11
"isbn_13":77
"01kx26agnd4h5kfcw1f782s8bz",496,"1999-02-15","https://api.seekquel.app/storage/covers/editions/01/01kx26agnd4h5kfcw1f782s8bz.jpg?v=04df356f1b","L2LWj[9t00~S000j=|Vu00%xEB%1","9780312199432
"isbn_13":85
"01kx26am64af2cvcmrmf6gpkmr","hardcover","Hardcover","1998-03-15","https://api.seekquel.app/storage/covers/editions/01/01kx26am64af2cvcmrmf6gpkmr.jpg?v=9dc179b867","L1F~B20000?uHv02%Mxs00g39*%e","9780312180089","Macmillan
"moderate","dense",7,"adult",[93,94],"adventurous","romantic",[],[97,98],"violence","racism
"isbn_13":55
[],"2026-07-09T01:01:54.000000Z
[104
"01kx26ahkq3d1gqk1ejp2cdr03","review-of-one-thousand-white-women-the-journals-of-may-dodd-by-tara-nelson","Review of "One Thousand White Women The Journals of May Dodd" by tara_nelson
622,"Tara Nelson","tara_nelson","https://api.seekquel.app/storage/avatars/622.webp?v=1783556101",1064,1246,"This was an interesting book. Written in the form of a diary, the story follows the lives of 100 women who volunteer to become wives to warriors and chiefs of a Native American tribe. The characters are very compelling and well developed, and I thought reading the story in the form of a diary made it more interesting. The history of the US government's relations with the Native Americans is used as the backdrop for this story, which also makes for a fascinating narrative. I enjoyed this book, and might reread it in the future.",4,"none","rv-01kx26ahkq3d1gqk1ejp2cdr03",[],"2026-07-09T01:01:55.000000Z
"https://api.seekquel.app/api/works/01kx26agn04rc6d2vgsnmvt279/reviews",20]
