On a Night Like This

Cher's engagement is over, so she does the thing you do: she signs up for a holiday house swap and puts a continent between herself and the wreckage. California for New York, in December, for her first Hanukkah in a city of snowbanks, lit store windows and vendors selling cocoa on corners.

Eliot is carrying his ex's belongings out of the apartment as Cher is carrying hers in. He is also nursing something, and playing tour guide to a beautiful stranger who will be gone in a few weeks is exactly the kind of low-stakes distraction he can handle. They walk the city with no expectations. The expectations arrive anyway, and with them the problem of the distance between two lives.

On a Night Like This is the third entry in Liz Maverick's Winter Nights series — a cozy, warm-hearted holiday romance produced as an Audible Original, performed in dual narration by Dara Rosenberg and Andrew Eiden.
