Synopsis

"Obscurs Horizons" is a collection of dark, speculative short fiction by the Tunisian author Atef Attia, originally published in French. Across its stories, a single wrong turn is often enough to plunge ordinary people into a world that looks almost like their own but has curdled into something alien and hostile.

Ranging over post-apocalyptic ruin, creeping paranoia, and bodily and psychological horror, the collection circles the idea that the worst is always still to come, and that salvation, when it appears, tends to wear a monstrous face. Attia, who writes across horror, crime, and the fantastic, won the creative book prize at the first Tunis Book Fair in 2018 for this collection.
