No Longer at Ease
Obi Okonkwo returns to Nigeria after his Western education, eager to modernize his country. However, he finds himself caught between traditional tribal customs and the corrupting influences of his new position. Faced with financial hardship and a forbidden love, Obi must confront his own integrity as he navigates a society resistant to change.
While this novel is the second published work in the African Trilogy, it functions as a standalone story that can be read independently of the other books in the series.
The title is derived from the closing lines of T.S. Eliot's poem Journey of the Magi, which describes the feeling of returning to a familiar place that no longer feels like home.
The novel has been adapted for radio, including a production for BBC Radio 4, but it has not been adapted into a feature film or television series.
