Synopsis

Co-written with Tarryn Fisher, Never Never follows Charlie Wynwood and Silas Nash — two teenagers who wake up one morning with no memory of who they are, who each other is, or how to feel anything at all. As they piece together their identities from journals, phones, and the reactions of people who claim to know them, they discover a shared history that may explain why they both lost everything at once. Originally published in three installments, the collected edition contains the complete story. Structured more like a psychological thriller than a romance, it is a significant departure from Hoover's standalone contemporary novels — fast-paced, mystery-driven, and deliberately withholding until its conclusion.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is Never Never a solo Colleen Hoover novel?

No — it is co-written with Tarryn Fisher, another bestselling author known for psychological suspense fiction. The two authors have cited the collaboration as one where they alternated chapters and surprised each other with plot turns, which contributes to the novel's unpredictable pacing.

  • Was Never Never originally published in three separate parts?

Yes — it was published as three novellas (Part One in 2015, Part Two in 2015, Part Three in 2016) before being collected into a single omnibus edition. The collected version is the form most readers encounter today.

  • Is Never Never a romance novel or a thriller?

Primarily a psychological thriller with a romantic relationship at its center. The amnesia mystery drives the plot rather than the relationship development, and the tone is closer to suspense fiction than Hoover's contemporary romance novels. Readers who pick it up expecting a romance in her usual style are often surprised.

  • Why do Charlie and Silas lose their memories at the same time?
  • Does Never Never connect to any of Colleen Hoover's other standalone novels?

No — it exists entirely in its own fictional world with no character or setting crossovers to her other works. It is best understood as a self-contained collaborative project with Tarryn Fisher.

  • Is the series complete?

Yes — the collected omnibus contains the complete story across all three original parts. The narrative reaches a full resolution by the end of the third installment.

  • What makes Never Never unusual compared to Hoover's other work?

Most of her novels center on romance as the primary emotional driver. Never Never prioritizes mystery and suspense, with the romantic relationship serving as context rather than the main event. The co-authorship with Tarryn Fisher — known for psychological thrillers — is directly reflected in the book's structure and tone.
