Synopsis

Eight science fiction stories set in Larry Niven's Known Space, first published in If and Galaxy Science Fiction between 1966 and 1967 under Frederik Pohl, and collected by Ballantine Books in April 1968. The contents are "Neutron Star", "A Relic of the Empire", "At the Core", "The Soft Weapon", "Flatlander", "The Ethics of Madness", "The Handicapped" and "Grendel".
