Synopsis

Peter Linebaugh's historical imagination brings to life the concept of globalization through the lens of 19th-century English loom-breakers. This book enlists the Luddites into an international group of commoners resisting dispossession during the rise of capitalist modernity. From the perspective of 1811-12, Linebaugh surveys the global processes that impacted traditional communities and dispossessed people of their means of production.
