James Purdy's 1978 classic, Narrow Rooms, is a passionate and sometimes bloody love story. It explores adolescent obsession and revenge, featuring social outcasts living in crisis and longing for love. Purdy was among the first novelists to incorporate unapologetic, sexually explicit material and transgressive renderings of gay life into his work.
