Campbell knows his myths (or, rather, almost all myths), has a very appealing story-telling style, draws some interesting connections/conclusions, but, at the same time, a lot of these conclusions seem far-fetched and more like wishful interpretations of human civilization and history based on few or circumstantial data. In general, the book feels outdated, with strong Cold-War/conservative vibes in some of its transcribed lectures, and Jungian ones in other. The overall message that myths are still relevant is passed on though and the humanistic point of view that embraces the whole humankind as one with itself and with the Universe prevails. Good book, but not to be taken on face value.
