For 300 years, the Stodmarsh family's ancestral home, Mullings, has been free of scandal. That changes when Edward Stodmarsh marries Regina Stapleton, who brings her family's 'ornamental hermit' to live on the estate. When a sudden, violent death occurs, the mysterious hermit becomes the prime suspect. It's up to the long-standing housekeeper, Florence Norris, to uncover the truth behind the murder.
