Synopsis

In rural Georgia on the eve of the Second World War, Elly Dinsmore is the town outcast, raised in isolation by eccentric grandparents and now a pregnant widow with two small sons, whispered about as the "Crazy Widow." Practical and desperate, she does the unthinkable in a place that already scorns her: she places a newspaper advertisement for a husband.

Will Parker is a soft-spoken drifter with an ex-convict's past and nothing to his name but a longing for a place to belong. When he answers Elly's ad and steps onto her ramshackle farm, two people the world has written off begin, warily, to build something together, tenderness, trust, and a home, against the suspicion of the town and the shadow of Will's history.

LaVyrle Spencer's beloved historical romance is a warm, emotional story about outcasts, second chances, and the quiet courage of choosing each other.
