Synopsis

A detective-novel-within-a-novel: Susan Ryeland, a former editor now running a hotel in Crete, is hired by the owners of an English estate to investigate the disappearance of their daughter Cecily. The case is tied to a murder that occurred at the estate eight years earlier, a crime that was dramatized in a mystery novel Susan once edited. As she digs through the book's pages, she uncovers a truth far darker than the one the public believes, and a killer hiding in plain sight.
