fun version: this novel is what frankenstein would have been if victor, instead of being a piece of s•••, had chosen to be a father.
sad version: there is a huge queer metaphor in here that you can't oversee; a child is born into a family who love him but not like that. they expect him to change and adapt and be like everyone else, to simply forget his monstruos self in favor of normalcy. in the end, the child realises that being himself is what makes him himself and therefore embracing it will give his life purpose.
