Synopsis

The three Maxwell siblings grew up as the only Black family in a gated, overwhelmingly white community outside Dallas—in a house that terrorized them with things no one else would believe, and for which Ezri, the eldest, was usually blamed. Ezri escaped to Oxford and a life abroad, estranged from their parents for nearly two decades. Then alarming texts arrive, seemingly from their mother, and Ezri returns with sisters Eve and Emmanuelle to find both parents dead at 677 Acacia Drive.

The police call it a murder-suicide; the siblings cannot agree whether the house, or something in it, is responsible. Rivers Solomon's Model Home is a haunted-house novel that turns the genre toward the real horrors of racism, assimilation, and belonging—an unsettling, emotionally raw story about family, memory, and the price of chasing the American dream in a place built to reject you. Named a Best Horror Book of the Year by The New York Times.
