Synopsis

In the aftermath of World War II, a quiet island community in the Pacific Northwest is rocked by a murder trial. A Japanese-American fisherman is accused of killing a fellow islander, and the proceedings expose deep-seated prejudices and long-held secrets. As the trial unfolds, a local journalist investigates the truth, forcing the community to confront its past and the complex relationships that bind its inhabitants.

David Guterson

David Guterson (b. 1956) is an American novelist, essayist and short-story writer from Seattle, Washington. He taught high school English on Bainbridge Island for a decade before publishing his debut novel, Snow Falling on Cedars (1994), which won the PEN/Faulkner Award and has sold millions of copies. His other novels include East of the Mountains, Our Lady of the Forest, The Other, Ed King and The Final Case. He is a Guggenheim Fellow and lives in Washington state.
