Eve Abbott left Moonflower Bay a decade ago with a broken heart and no intention of ever coming back. Her great-aunt's death leaves her the Mermaid Inn, a determinedly kitschy little hotel on the shore of the Canadian lakeside town, and a will that forbids her from selling it unless she runs it herself for a full year.

Sawyer Collins is now Moonflower Bay's police chief, still quietly putting everyone ahead of himself, and still carrying the white lie he told at eighteen to stop Eve from throwing over her future for him. With Eve back in town for the year, the thing between them refuses to stay buried — which delights the trio of elderly matchmakers who consider the whole town their project.
