Synopsis

The proud, arrogant Duke of Everingham, Redmond Jasper Hartley ("Hart"), is determined to secure a marriage of convenience with heiress Lady Georgiana "George" Rutherford — but George, who grew up poor, has no intention of surrendering her hard-won fortune to become dependent on a man. The more she defies him, the more he wants her, until an argument at a ball spirals into a passionate embrace. Caught in a compromising position, Hart announces their betrothal, and a furious George marches down the aisle in a scarlet wedding dress. Married life proves different than either expected, forcing them both to reconsider just how independent they hoped to be.
