Manacled is a long, dark alternate-universe fan-fiction set in the world of Harry Potter, imagining that Voldemort won the war and Harry Potter is dead. In the brutal regime that follows, Hermione Granger is captured and sent, stripped of her memories, to serve as an enslaved surrogate in the household of the High Reeve — a masked enforcer of the new order who turns out to be Draco Malfoy.
Beneath Hermione's suppressed memories lies knowledge that could still matter to a shattered resistance, and much of the story turns on what she has forgotten, what her captor knows, and the fragile, dangerous connection that grows between them in a house built on cruelty. It is an unrelentingly bleak romance, more interested in trauma, survival, and moral compromise than in escapism.
Widely circulated online and hugely influential in the "Dramione" fandom, Manacled is notable for its scale and its unflinching darkness. It was later reworked by the author into the original, traditionally published novel Alchemised, with the Harry Potter elements removed.
