Another Ali Hazelwood and having to read The Love Hypothesis previously making me wanting to read this new released as well. Still carrying the same vibe and theme like her previous book, Love On The Brain centered around the life of Bee Königswasser after accepting an offer to lead a neuroengineering project with NASA that get her to work side by side with a senior she knew, Levi Ward. From a misunderstanding coupled with their archenemies relationship since grad school, it gets harder for Bee when conflict arises through their collaboration that affected her role as a cognitive neuroscientist. A twinge of luck needed, but can Bee survives when the problem and work intertwined with her past relationship too?
I love how the plot arc was structured based on the life of Marie Curie; Bee’s absolute idol. The references were so enjoyably explored with its nerdy and engaging prose— those brain regions and its function as the chapter’s title were fascinating too for me. Not fancy much on the characterization as Bee was too verbose and overly dramatic to my liking (it was so tiring to follow her perspective!). It would be much interesting too if I could get Levi’s POV (his family prob was triggering yet engrossing to be highlighted more) but knowing the author’s style I know I won’t. The romance part seems quite abrupt yet I like both Bee and Levi’s interaction— that cliché-ness of enemy to lover still sending me a heart swoony moment.
Loving the highlighted STEM topics and how the author relates it to a socmed mishap; the conflict was both intense and enlightening that I like how it gets compellingly twisty later with a thrilling much ending. Still an enjoyable read despite my love-hate towards it, think I still would go for another Ali Hazelwood next time. A recommendation if you love a fun moody chick lit romance in academia setting, a bonus for vegan also with cats included. 3.5 stars to this!
