The back cover of the book pretty much summarizes what the story is and the protagonists barely talk to each other , except towards the end of the book, however , the writing style is still beautiful enough to keep you engaged throughout.
Also , the story is about love , mainly unrequited love - set in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.
There are a lot of things one with a rationale mind won't be able to relate to
1. Florentino Ariza relentlessly pursuing Fermina Daza when it is evident she doesn't love him at all. They barely had any interaction with each other to fall in love. Anyone with some common sense would have moved on in a few years. But if that had happened , the story wouldn't have been told.
2. Florentino Ariza having sexual relations with America , who is his grand - daughter's age.
3. Florentino Ariza having had 600+ affairs in his 50 years of waiting for his one true love.
Despite all the absurdities which jump out of the book , I still liked it for the way it is written.
