Synopsis

Los tres mundos (The Three Worlds) closes Santiago Posteguillo's Trilogy of the Ascent, following I Am Rome (Roma soy yo) and Accursed Rome (Maldita Roma). Published by Ediciones B in 2025, the novel covers roughly five years of Julius Caesar's career, centered on his governorship of Gaul and the Gallic Wars of the late 50s BCE.

The narrative moves between three fronts: Caesar's grinding campaign against Vercingetorix, Ariovistus and the Gallic and Germanic tribes; the political knives coming out in Rome, where tensions inside the First Triumvirate and the rivalry between Cicero and Cato threaten Caesar's alliances at home; and Ptolemaic Egypt, where the exiled Ptolemy XII and his daughter Cleopatra wait for an opening to reclaim the throne. Pompey, Crassus, Mark Antony, Labienus and Calpurnia all move through a documented reconstruction of the conquest.

Posteguillo pairs that research with a fast, propulsive narrative style reviewers have called addictive despite the book's length, and the novel sets up the wider hexalogy he has planned around Caesar's full story, with Cleopatra already emerging as a thread still to come.
