Synopsis

In a small Missouri town during wartime, a schoolteacher and a grave digger, both living with disabilities, find an unexpected connection. They are drawn together by their shared desire to help Jewel, a bright youngster burdened by a brutal, alcoholic father. The grave digger's metaphor of a 'long train passing' frames this story of life, love, and the challenges faced by its characters.
