Another Hazelwood to my read-shelf! Three novellas with Hazelwood’s charming touch of STEMinist characters, tackling an endearing journey of a love story in three settings with three related heroines as the narrator; quite adorably written with expressive prose and fast pacing progress, bit stressful too to devour into their miscommunication phase and a loathe-to-love moment as well the slow-burn chemistry can get on your nerves at times yet I fancy how each still amused me with its appealing plotline, although I would say for a reader who reads Hazelwood previously this can be a bit underwhelming because of the similarities in both of her premises and characters so far.
My personal thoughts for each novella:
Under One Roof
I love their meet-cute the most. Liam was fine but I don’t find his chemistry with Mara that intriguing much perhaps because both characters were quite reserved to me. Light conflict with unnecessary assumption from Mara; I wish she can just talk it out with Liam and not just assume.
Stuck With You
The most serene setting for me, maybe because of their meet-cute feels typical and easy to relate. Love Sadie’s bubbly character and her little anxiety after getting stuck with Erik in that elevator. An intense misunderstanding, and Sadie’s train of thoughts on Erik was so descriptive sometimes it can be too exaggerating for me.
Below Zero
Another intense conflict, gripping plotline and this reminds me a lot to Love On The Brain. Not much a fan to Hannah and Ian’s chemistry probably their immediate connection that led Hannah being too physical bothered me much. The most STEM related narrative compared to the other two; nerdy and interesting yet can be tedious too.
An average romance read to me but I still find it as enjoyably written. Also, as much as I appreciate Hazelwood’s way in narrating ideas by combining STEM with romance premises, I wish to see more variety to her characterization and setting next time. 3.5 stars to this!
