Little Women
A shortened, accessible retelling of the first part of Louisa May Alcott's Little Women, written for readers aged 11 and up, including reluctant and dyslexic readers. It follows the four March sisters — Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy — through a year at home in Civil War-era New England while their father is away and their mother works to keep the family afloat.
The retelling covers the sisters' friendship with the boy next door, Laurie, their amateur theatricals, and the small hardships and joys of their daily lives, ending where the original novel's first part does — it does not continue into the material covered by Alcott's Good Wives.
