Sitting there, he remembers something he had entirely forgotten: the strange and terrifying weeks when he was seven years old and the world briefly came apart.

It began with a death and a handful of coins, and with the girl at the end of the lane—Lettie Hempstock, who claimed she and her mother and grandmother were far older than they looked. When something ancient and hungry followed the boy home in the shape of a new housekeeper, it wormed its way into his family and turned the people he trusted against him. Only the Hempstock women, guardians of forces older than the moon, stood between him and being unmade.

Neil Gaiman's short, luminous novel is a dark fairy tale about childhood, memory, and the enormous, unspeakable things that can happen to small people. Led by the pigs, the most clever of the animals, the farm is renamed and the beasts set about running their world for their own benefit.

But power reshapes those who hold it. As the ambitious boar Napoleon consolidates control, the founding ideals are quietly rewritten, dissent is punished, and the promises of the revolution curdle into a tyranny that looks unsettlingly like the one it replaced. The other animals, loyal and hardworking, struggle to remember how things were meant to be.

George Orwell's short, savage fable uses a barnyard uprising to trace how revolutions are betrayed, how language is bent to serve power, and how easily the many can be ruled by the few. It surfaces roughly every twenty-seven years to prey on Derry's children, and in the summer of 1958 the Losers — Bill, Ben, Beverly, Richie, Eddie, Mike, and Stan — become the only people willing to fight it.

Twenty-seven years later, the killings begin again. The Losers, now scattered adults who have half-forgotten what happened to them, are called back to Derry by a promise they made as children: to return and finish what they started. King tells their story through a nonlinear structure that braids the two eras together, so that childhood and adulthood, memory and present terror, bleed into one another.

One of Stephen King's most ambitious and enduring novels, It is at once an epic horror story and a meditation on childhood, memory, friendship, and the losses that come with growing up. It imagines a distant-future World State that has traded away family, art, religion, and struggle for guaranteed stability: children are decanted from bottles and conditioned into rigid castes, discontent is dissolved by the pleasure-drug soma, and citizens are engineered from birth to love the servitude assigned to them.

The story follows Bernard Marx, an Alpha who feels subtly out of step with his frictionless society, and Lenina Crowne, who embodies its ideals. A trip to a "Savage Reservation" brings them back to London with John, a young man raised on Shakespeare and outside the World State's control. His collision with a civilization that cannot understand grief, longing, or belief drives the novel toward its unsettling conclusion.

By turns satirical and chilling, Huxley's book interrogates the price of manufactured happiness and the loss of individuality in a technological age. Decades after publication it remains one of the most widely read and debated novels about the value of books and the cost of their loss.","https://api.seekquel.app/storage/covers/editions/01/01kjq7cmgpttgygq4tspg6rp8p.jpg","LAQ9M+?w^HR3L}m*S1SjIQ9EDj?v",1953,"3.30",231,[972
"01kjq7cmf58hz75w0429j12vr0","ray-bradbury-snol","Ray Bradbury",[977,978,979,980,981,982,983
203,"Social Sci-Fi","social-sci-fi",[988
"01kmrw84sm973e379drn8vadgc","fahrenheit-451-beqa
[119,182,235],[
"01kjr36348efxpzn9xx6j77xmc","before-the-coffee-gets-cold-uwh9","Before the Coffee Gets Cold","In a small basement café in Tokyo, there is a seat that offers something no other café can: the chance to travel back in time. The rules, however, are strict and unforgiving. You can only meet people who have also visited the café; you cannot leave your chair; nothing you do in the past will change the present; and you must return before your coffee gets cold.

Over four interwoven stories, a handful of customers choose to sit in that seat anyway. A woman confronts the man who left her; a wife tries to reach her husband before his memory fades to illness; a sister waits for a sibling she cannot forgive; a mother reaches for a child she will never get to raise. None of them can rewrite what has happened—but each discovers that revisiting a single moment can still change the heart, if not the facts.

Toshikazu Kawaguchi's gentle, bittersweet novel began as a stage play and has become an international bestseller. Quiet and character-driven, Before the Coffee Gets Cold is a meditation on regret, second chances, and the small comforts that let us carry our losses forward.","https://api.seekquel.app/storage/covers/editions/01/01kjz49tv4w0dy4pmcpbcyfcda.jpg","L5Ma^a~V^+K*009a9a-o3WkW9ZM{","3.86",[1003
"01kjr3634czxspaqb6b84aggvy","untitled-elop","川口俊和",[1008,1009,1013,1014,1015
30,"Time Travel","time-travel
[1017,1021
"01kmrw94gvtnst4enxsq7j38p1","untitled-f2dj","コーヒーが冷めないうちに
"01kjr3636nd1m1j5nrbxe8szfg","before-the-coffee-gets-cold-6cur
[182,815,1026],"cozy",[1028],"time-loop",[1030
"01kr820mpwgmh0xg04m9w3nhng","review-of-life-ceremony-by-deleted-258","Review of "Life Ceremony" by deleted_258","Never knew that reading a book with a grotesque theme could be this addictive. The unexpected was enticing, and as much as I know how bizarre Murata would go this was beyond any imaginative prose I would ever imagined. Consists of 13 stories that revolves on cultures, alienation, obsession and the observation of social and human norms, it amazes me on how Murata could create a world with characters and personalities that having the same resemblance of the present-day ethics and anxieties but with a twist and so out of the box.

Bold and disturbing yet too engrossingly written. Few of my fav stories: A First-Rate Material (on obsessing over items, clothes and accessories made from human-- love this and how it makes me thinking that it might be possible as we go with animal fur coat so why not with human hair sweater next?), A Magnificent Spread (a chilling story on eating habits-- I actually like Keiichi!), Life Ceremony (a surreal ritual of eating humans, on procreating and death with a book of recipes as a bonus-- I need to take a moment of silence just to digest this), Lover On The Breeze (a love story with a bedroom curtain-- so meticulously and poetically written), Poochie (we collect stray cats and dogs for a pet yet how about a stray human for a change?) and Hatchling (a woman with 5 'identities' trying to adjust her mind into finding her ownself).

I like that it was speculatively narrated and having that indirect nuanced of social commentary (or perhaps a critique?) on the social expectation and lifestyle standard, on the 'authoritarian' tradition and how we always judging others to be so different than us yet in their eyes we are probably ain't normal either. The blend of dark humor and its perspectives quite mindblown, such a provoking premise to me and regardless how it making me go squeamish I somehow enjoyed it a lot. 4.5 stars to this!

"Normal is a type of madness, isn't it?"
"I couldn’t understand why he thought human hair was so wrong when goat hair was fine. How come he’s so neurotic about human materials?”
"Our eating habits are dear to us, and I want you to respect them and not interfere..."
“You know, warabimochi resemble a boy’s tongue.
