Ida Vitale (born 2 November 1923 in Montevideo) is a Uruguayan poet, essayist, translator and literary critic, and the last surviving member of Uruguay's "Generation of 45," which also included Mario Benedetti and Juan Carlos Onetti. She fled to Mexico City in 1973 amid Uruguay's military dictatorship, later lived in Austin, Texas, and returned to Montevideo in 2016.
