This is a book that I have come across multiple times in the library and never thought of borrowing, but the title intrigued me. It did not live up to my expectations mainly because the translation wasn't all that good. I try to remind myself not to be too strict with translated books though. I am sure that if I were fluent in German and had given it a go, I would've enjoyed it a lot more. The copy I had is a bilingual edition (German and French) and to anyone who speaks both languages I bet it would've been interesting to compare the two versions. The themes are of great interest: the importance of solitude to the act of writing, the multiple dimensions and difficulties of writing... The 7th letter was particularly beautiful, well-written, and I agreed with most of what it said, as it revolved around men, women and how fragile love can be when we aren't ready for it. I would recommand this book to young poets, to those interested in authors' reflexions on the act of writing, and simply to anyone who enjoys reading poetic prose.
