a perfect depiction of the situation of women and men in an oriental patriarchal society, Ahmed is torn between his biological female sex, and his assigned male role. He comes to mock his sisters since he discovered that the problem is not being born females, but their upbringing and how they are forced to stay caged in their cage of fear and shame. I see Ahmed like most modern women, who are strong and independent and still seen as unnatural and manly in their behavior, for women "must" be soft and fragile, and any sign of strength is masculine. Ahmed/Zahra remains torn by this identity crisis till the end, he is neither man, nor woman, he belongs to neither, he identifies to none of them
